Under EU consumer protection law (Directive 1999/44/EC and national transpositions), a manufacturer cannot automatically void the full vehicle warranty because a third-party modification was made. They must demonstrate that the specific modification directly caused the specific failure being claimed. A remap cannot logically be held responsible for a failed wheel bearing, a broken seat mechanism or corrosion. In practice though, dealer service departments sometimes try to deny warranty claims on remapped vehicles regardless.
