How much does diesel ECU remapping cost?

At Recuauto, diesel ECU remapping starts from €300 for Stage 1 on cars and vans. For trucks and industrial vehicles, Stage 1 (FuelSaver/SmartDrive) starts from €600. The price includes pre-OBD diagnosis, original map reading, custom remapping and a full report with before and after data. Diesel engines generally have more headroom than petrol, making diesel remapping exceptional value for money.

Is it worth remapping a diesel engine?

Yes, particularly for diesel. Manufacturers leave more margin in diesel engines than petrol, meaning the gain is proportionally greater. Beyond the power and torque increase, the fuel saving is real and measurable: with more torque at low RPM the engine needs fewer hard accelerations and operates in a better efficiency range. For high-mileage drivers (20,000+ km/year) the remap pays for itself through fuel savings alone in under a year.

What does Stage 2 diesel remapping require?

For a diesel Stage 2 remap you mainly need: a high-flow air intake (to improve turbo airflow), a performance exhaust or larger-diameter downpipe (to reduce back pressure), and on some models a larger intercooler. The engine must be in good mechanical condition: no oil leaks, timing in good order, no abnormal oil consumption. Our pre-diagnosis checks all of this before we proceed.

How long does diesel ECU remapping take?

Diesel remapping at Recuauto takes between 2 and 4 hours for a car, and 3 to 6 hours for a truck or industrial vehicle. The process covers: pre-diagnosis (30 min), initial measurement (30 min), custom map work (1-2 h) and a final check with report by our specialists (30 min). By appointment only.

Is diesel Stage 1 safe?

Yes. Stage 1 for diesel engines is the safest option because it operates within the engine's mechanical limits without any component changes. We use the same margins that manufacturers apply in higher-power variants of the same engine. Our thorough pre-diagnosis ensures the engine is in optimal condition before remapping, and our specialists check and validate the results.

Remap vs engine replacement: which makes sense?

Remapping is far more economical and less invasive than replacing an engine. An engine swap costs between €3,000 and €15,000 plus homologation. A Stage 1 remap from €300 delivers equivalent or superior performance and economy improvements without touching the mechanics. Engine replacement only makes sense when there is severe mechanical damage.
